One of the most meaningful activities that we engage in is the creation of a home. Over an extended period of time we accumulate furniture and other items into a unique collection. With a lot of thought and great awareness, we find items that fittingly depict our identities.
Our homes anchor our identity – not only is it enough to know ourselves in our own minds, we need something tangible, material and aesthetic, to align us with who we are and seek to be.
In our pursuit of building a home, we are trying to establish a place that adequately portrays our spiritual beliefs and values.
The smallest item in our homes murmurs to us, offer us reassurance, reminders and soothing thoughts. The quest to build a home is connected to a need to stabilise and organise our multifaceted selves. The ordinary articles we live among silently remind us of our most authentic affections and inspirations.
